Postpartum Doula Care

My goal as a postpartum doula is to provide non-judgemental support for families, as they add a new, adorable but exhausting, member to their household. Whether that is the transition of adding a first baby and getting used to being a parent, or adding another sibling to the bunch. Whether that looks like caring for baby so the new parents can sleep and rest after a long night, helping with feedings/baths as mom heals from a belly birth, or being a listening ear as I prep some meals for your family and get dinner on the table, I want to make that postpartum & newborn time period one of rest, thriving in new roles, and beauty for the whole family!

What does postpartum care look like? Do I need it?

Postpartum doula care includes practical, informational, and emotional support. Practical support may look like helping prepare snacks and prepping meals, spending time with a sibling so mom and baby can nap, or light housekeeping. Maybe you are looking for support with caring for baby, diapering, bathing, feeding support or help with swaddling and baby-wearing. These all fall under informational support, and postpartum doulas are trained in all of these areas. Emotional support can include helping to process your birth, sitting with you when you feel overwhelmed, and knowing when to provide additional resources and referrals when needed.

All postpartum shifts can include any of the following that would be helpful for your family!

  • Caring for baby so you can rest/nap, shower, snuggle older kids, etc.

  • Light housekeeping – including laundry (baby and sibling), dishes, washing/sterilizing bottles and pump parts, kitchen surface cleaning

  • Feeding and infant care assistance - including bathing, getting baby to sleep, bottle feeding and/or breastfeeding support, swaddling, and baby-wearing

  • Emotional support for a mom who needs to process her emotions

  • Meal prepping for your family

  • Sibling help and care
